SPINAL PATHOLOGIES
DR. JORDI JIMÉNEZ
The spine is a fundamental structure that provides support, mobility, and protection for the spinal cord. Given its complexity and the constant stress it endures , it is susceptible to various pathologies that can significantly affect quality of life. From traumatology and orthopedics, we address these conditions with a comprehensive approach, seeking to relieve pain, restore function, and improve the well-being of our patients.
Among the most common pathologies of the spine we find:
- Herniated disc: Displacement of material from the intervertebral disc that can compress nerve roots, causing radiating pain, numbness, or weakness.
- Spinal Stenosis: Narrowing of the spinal canal that can put pressure on the spinal cord and nerves.
- Scoliosis: Abnormal lateral curvature of the spine.
- Spondylolisthesis: Slipping of one vertebra over another.
- Vertebral Fractures: Usually caused by trauma, they can vary in severity.
- Osteoarthritis or Spondyloarthrosis: Degeneration of the joints of the spine, causing pain and stiffness.
Diagnosis and treatment
Accurate diagnosis is crucial and is based on the patient's medical history, physical examination, and complementary studies such as X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or computed tomography (CT).
Treatment varies depending on the condition and its severity. In many cases, it begins with conservative measures such as physical therapy, pain medication, and activity modifications. When these are not sufficient, or in cases of instability or neurological compromise, surgical intervention may be considered.
In our practice, we apply the most advanced techniques in traumatology and orthopedics to address spinal pathologies, from minimally invasive procedures to complex surgeries, always with the goal of achieving the best possible outcome for each patient.
