THORACIC PAIN
DR. JORDI JIMÉNEZ
Thoracic pain , or mid-back pain, is a condition that, while sometimes less common than lower back or neck pain, can be equally bothersome and interfere with your daily activities. In our trauma section, we address back pain to identify its source and recommend the most appropriate treatment strategies.
What can cause back pain?
The causes of back pain can be varied:
- Postural problems: Maintaining poor posture when sitting, working, or using electronic devices.
- Muscle overload: Performing activities that put excessive demands on the muscles of the middle back.
- Injuries: Sprains, muscle strains or even fractures (although less frequent in this area).
- Dorsal osteoarthritis: Wear and tear of the joints in the spine.
- Dorsal herniated discs: Less common than in the lumbar or cervical area, but they can occur.
- Spinal deformities: Such as scoliosis or kyphosis.
- Other medical conditions: In less common cases, back pain may be related to other diseases.
What symptoms can you experience with thoracic pain?
Pain can manifest itself in various ways:
- Hard and constant pain.
- Sharp, stabbing pain.
- Stiffness in the middle of the back.
- Pain radiating to the ribs or chest.
- In some cases, difficulty breathing deeply.
Our Approach to Treating Back Pain:
In traumatology, we aim to relieve your back pain and improve your quality of life. Treatment may include:
- Comprehensive evaluation: To identify the specific cause of your pain.
- Conservative treatment: Physiotherapy with strengthening and stretching exercises, postural correction, analgesics and anti-inflammatories, and occasionally, injections (which can be performed with ultrasound guidance for greater precision).
- Surgical treatment: Rarely necessary for isolated back pain, but may be considered in cases of symptomatic disc herniation or progressive deformities.
If you suffer from mid-back pain, don't hesitate to consult us. We're here to help you find relief and regain your well-being.
