[VIDEO] Ultrasound-Guided Drainage of Baker's Cyst
- 06/01/2023
A Baker's cyst is an accumulation of fluid in the bursa located at the back of the knee. It occurs when joint fluid flows into the bursa but cannot return to the joint, accumulating in the bursa. Baker's cysts are common in older adults or those with a joint injury or problem. They often cause pain and swelling in the affected joint. Treatment can be conservative or surgical. Conservative treatment includes the use of analgesics and anti-inflammatories to relieve pain and inflammation. Ultrasound can also be used to drain it and relieve compressive symptoms, especially when the cyst is large. Ultrasound-guided corticosteroid injections can reduce pain and inflammation. If these treatments are ineffective or the cyst is causing significant problems, surgery may be recommended to remove it.
